Private Yoga

A private session is wonderful for students seeking personal attention in their practice that may not be possible in a group class.  Private sessions focus on the student's individual needs, the finer points in alignment and pranayama, and how to adapt the practice to your unique flexibility, body/mind type, and level of experience.  Deanna teaches students working with all types of challenges to work in a way that builds strength and focus with ease and safety.  Many students come with special needs and injuries, including Backcare issues such as herniation, spinal degeneration, spondilolysthesis, spinal fusions, and scoliosis.

A Strengthening and Restorative Yoga Combo.  This class focuses on building strength and flexibility as well as building the ability to consciously relax and release tension. Fathers Guest Pass, Ayurveda, July 4th Weekend, & Restorative

Ayurveda for the Summer: Part 1 ~ Friday, June 19th, 6-8pm

Explore holistic seasonal ways of living, feel renewed, and learn tips to stay cool, calm, and collected for the summer!  Ayurveda is the sister science of Yoga and a 5000-year-old practice of Indian healing, known as the Science of Life and Longevity.  We will explore how to understand your unique prakriti (unique personal state of equilibrium) and dosha (imbalance tendencies), and learn how to individually tailor the use of wholesome foods, herbs, spices, pranayama, asana, and daily practices to cultivate healing and transformation, and maintain balance in body, mind, and spirit.  We must have at least 5 participants to hold this workshop.

Join us underneath the open sky in the Native Plant Garden for this 3-class series that features gentle Dhyana Flow yoga. This series emphasizes alignment, meditative Vinyasa flow, backcare, pranayama (breathing practices), and meditation. All levels welcome! 

Schiff members pay $35 for the package of 3 classes; non-members pay $45 for the package. Drop in rate is $15 for Schiff members only, but please call 973-543-6004 to make sure there is room in the class.

This practice is one of building the ability to let go, reduce stress and anxiety, and emphasizes self-care, compassion and cultivating balance, calm, healing, and rejuvenation.

Yoga Sutras Dialogue with Deanna ~ February 22nd, 3-4:30pm

The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is known as the first systematized text on Yoga or as the basic textbook or bible of Yoga.  It is one of the most widely translated books in the world, made up of aphorisms each threading together to offer the devoted student a guide to Freedom.  Yoga is known as the Science of the Mind - join us as we explore the wisdom and practicality of this ancient text and how it applies to everyday life and practice. 

It is recommended to read the first chapter (Book One: Samadhi Pada) of any translation/commentary of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali in advance.  We will be referring to commentaries by Swami Satchidananda and Edwin Bryant, but any translation you like will be fine to bring with you.

Suggested donation of $15 or pay what you can.

Yoga Sutras with Professor Edwin Bryant

Hi Everyone! 

We have a last minute awesome opportunity to host Professor Edwin Bryant this Sunday (January 25th) to teach on the Yoga Sutras!  He is one of the most regarded and brilliant scholars in the world and teaches at Rutgers and throughout the country on eastern philosophy and religions.  I'm super excited and honored that he'll be here to teach for us.

The workshop will be 6:45-9:45pm but we need a sufficient amount of interest to hold this workshop.  Please share with anyone you think may be interested!!!

$25 Regular / $20 Sweet

Dhyana LIVE & Kirtan! (yoga with live music and bhajans) December 21st @5pm!

Had a blast last time so we're bringing it back!  Similar to last month's event, we'll float through a meditative yoga asana practice with live music... and this time around, Deanna will break down some of the lyrics to the bhajans so we can fully embrace the intention, sounds, and power of Bhakti Yoga.

Experience a unique and meditative yoga and musical journey.  Deanna will lead a slow-flowing, mindfully sequenced yoga practice, as we ride on the vibrations of live originals from fave musician, Mike Tichy.  After Asana, we'll shift into Bhakti Yoga, singing the heart and mind open through chanting and Bhajans (Indian folk songs).  Cultivate the practices of Dhyana (Flow/Absorption) and Bhakti (Devotion) to purify the mind, and dissolve into bliss!

$20 in advance/$25 the day of - for 70 min yoga class with live music.  No charge for the singing portion of the program afterwards, but donations for musicians are welcome!

Feel free to bring flowers, fruit, or a small picture/trinket that has meaning for you, to offer up to our sacred space/altar at the front of the studio.   We'll have satsang and snacks after - Please RSVP in advance so we know how much food to get. 

A portion of proceeds will go towards building a Shiva Temple at Ganesh Place Ashram in NC (Sri Sri Sri Shivabalayogi gives free meditation programs there and throughout NJ, DC, PA, CO, Canada and India).

UPDATE: The Yoga for Backcare Workshop is on this Sunday 3-5:30pm!  The Yoga for Scoliosis Workshop at 5:45pm has been cancelled.  If students with scoliosis come to the 3pm Backcare workshop, Rachel will also address specialized yoga for scoliosis and how to address a student's individual curves and needs.  Please share this with anyone you know who suffers from back issues!  Sharing is caring :)

Get ready to explore the art of alignment, flow, creativity and Oneness, as we build on slow-flowing, mindful sequencing, linking the breath to the movements and riding on the live musical vibrations of special guest, Mike Tichy, on acoustic guitar.  One aspect of vinyasa yoga is linking the breath with the movement and flowing from one pose to the next, like a dance... Join us this Sunday and celebrate the magic of vinyasa dance!
