Meet the Artist!
“Upon moving to the Chester-Long Valley area over 6 years ago I was in search of a fun and creative activity and I hoped to meet people in the area. I have always had a love for jewelry and gemstones and attracted to color (this is something I inherited from my grandmother). So, I decided to take a jewelry making class. I started making jewelry and wearing my own designs.
While at an outing, wearing a long blue and orange Sodalite necklace (rare natural stone) with a pendant that I created, a yogini came up to me admiring my necklace and said I should make Mala beads. That was my “Aha” moment (spirit recognizing spirit). I have always been a person that tries to integrate all aspects of my life. I realized that I could combine several of my interests: I could create Mala beads to satisfy my creative outlet, have a meditative practice and wear jewelry. I could also create Mala beads to be used by my fellow yoga practitioners to help them in their meditative practices.
Selecting beads and gemstones is a spiritual experience for me. I find creating Malas to be very meditative; it stills my mind, brings me peace and reduces stress. I believe using Malas for mediation, prayer or simply wearing them in daily living for the benefits they evoke is a blessing.
