Soak in the practices of Restorative Yoga to keep yourself and your students nourished, relaxed, and grounded.

There are countless studies referring to the rising numbers of people who suffer from issues related to stress and for this "stress response" to be overactive, affecting overall health.  Restorative Yoga plays an important role in balancing the central nervous system, reducing stress, alleviating pain, deepening awareness, resting deeply, boosting the immune system, cultivating mental focus and overall health, and calming the mind and body, among many other benefits.

Focus of this training is on Techniques & Subtleties of teaching Restorative Yoga.  The magic is in the details...

Learn about special topics including:

  • overview of the Central Nervous System, Parasympathetic/Sympathetic Nervous System and the relaxation response

  • how to adapt the practice for beginners, intermediate, and special populations, including an intro on how to modify for back issues

  • anatomy of the spine

  • what to look for and avoid

  • intelligent sequencing

  • indications and contraindications

  • clear directives

  • pranayama

  • how to focus class energy to hold space for relaxation

  • how to adapt for studio setting and group vs private classes

Hours from this training can be applied to your Continuing Education for Yoga Alliance.

You can expect:

  • to learn how to sequence and teach a balanced, safe, and serene restorative class

  • to practice with partners and learn how to modify for different bodies and levels

  • to receive clear feedback on your practice teaching

  • Part 2 includes restorative yoga in further depth, “active restorative,” how to teach with minimal props and how to modify for students with back issues

“I had never met Deanna, nor anyone at her studio when I decided to take her Kurma Restorative Yoga Certification. I’d never even been to New Jersey. I decided I couldn’t wait for this certification to be offered by someone near me, so I booked a flight, a hotel, a rental car, and I traveled the 1,000 miles to Chester. I walked in about 15 minutes late, nervous, and having traveled MANY hours that day. Deanna’s caring and compassionate disposition put me at ease as she trained me to bring Restorative Yoga to my students. In my 14 years of practicing and teaching, I have never experienced compassion and love like Deanna pours onto those who are privileged to know her. In 3 short days she brought me on a journey that I wasn’t expecting. One where I learned to love and trust myself more. One that ended with me opening my own studio after 12 years of teaching for someone else. Restorative Yoga is a practice that is all about slowing down, opening up, and allowing yourself to completely relax and rest. Whether you are looking to add more restorative elements to your current curriculum, or a dedicated Restorative Yoga class, this training will deepen your understanding of the stress-relieving and healing elements of Yoga. Try a class. Take a certification course. You won’t regret it.” ~ Cassandra Sykes
